The Jharkhand Literary Meet was launched in 2017 in the belief that a culturally rich yet under-represented region such as Jharkhand needed its very own festival celebrating literature and allied cultural pursuits, like dance, music, recitation, cinema, and theatrical performances. From the very first year, the Jharkhand Literary Meet has focussed on drawing premier authors, speakers and performance artists from the region and across India. This has worked to make it a true mirror of the region’s literary and cultural landscape.
It was our privilege and pleasure to have hosted, in the very first year itself, eminent writers and personalities such as Jairam Ramesh, Ashok Vajpeyi, Mark Tully, Rahul Dev, Sharmila Tagore, Niranjan Iyengar, Rajdeep Sardesai, Bishan Singh Bedi among others.
The Meet also put strong focus on spotlighting authors from the region who are beginning to make a mark on the country’s literary scene, such as Mohua Maji, Jyoti Lakra and Anuj Lugun, who made the Meet more powerful and locally relevant with their presence.
We hope to make the Jharkhand Literary Meet an integral part of Ranchi’s and the region’s annual cultural calendar as we have with Kalam, the Kolkata Literary Meet and BLM, the Bhubaneshwar Literary Meet.
We hope to achieve this with a continuing emphasis on consistently high quality of participants, and an inherent connection with the local cultural ethos.
